You Suddenly Get NT$10 Million

A stranger tells you that you've won NT$10 million. You must spend at least half of it within one week. What do you buy, who do you help, and what crazy thing do you do?

Listen to the Dialogue

Dialogue: Ruth & Michael

Michael: Wait, say that again. Ten million?

Ruth: Ten million NT dollars. And apparently I have to spend half of it in one week or it disappears.

Michael: That is the strangest rule I've ever heard, and I'm choosing not to question it.

Ruth: Same. So — help me spend it. What's the first thing I should buy?

Michael: Honestly? Pay off your parents' mortgage. Boring answer, huge impact.

Ruth: Okay, that's actually really sweet, and I'm doing that first.

Michael: See, I have layers.

Ruth: You do. What's next... I want to do something for you too. You've been saving for a new laptop forever.

Michael: You don't have to—

Ruth: I know I don't have to. I want to. Consider it done.

Michael: Okay, now I feel like I should build you something with it. A shrine, maybe.

Ruth: A shrine's a bit much. A really good dinner would be fine.

Michael: Deal. What about the rest of it?

Ruth: I want to donate some to the animal shelter downtown, and then... honestly, I might just travel. Somewhere I've never been.

Michael: Ten million NT dollars and you still can't decide between “responsible” and “reckless.”

Ruth: Why choose? I'm doing both.
