You wake up alone on a beautiful island. You have your phone, but no signal, and you can see a mysterious boat offshore. What do you do during your first 24 hours?
Ruth: Okay, don't panic, but I think we're on a desert island.
Michael: I'm not panicking. I'm just wondering why you're the one who has to say “don't panic” first.
Ruth: Because usually you say it, and it's annoying, so I wanted to try it.
Michael: Fair. Do you have your phone?
Ruth: Yeah, but there's no signal. Just forty photos of my breakfast from three weeks ago.
Michael: Priorities. Wait — is that a boat out there?
Ruth: It is. It hasn't moved in like ten minutes though.
Michael: So either nobody's on it, or somebody's watching us right now deciding whether we're a threat.
Ruth: Cheerful thought. Let's build a shelter first and worry about the mystery boat later.
Michael: Agreed. I saw a bunch of big leaves near those rocks — that could work as a roof.
Ruth: And I'll look for fresh water. There has to be a stream somewhere, this island's too green to be totally dry.
Michael: Meet back here in twenty minutes?
Ruth: Twenty minutes, and if that boat comes any closer, we scream really loudly and hope it's friendly.
Michael: Solid plan. A+ survival strategy.
