Look 765 – Budget build.

In November of 2022, I got a call from an old friend, he had come across a Look 765 frameset and asked me if I was interested in it. I took one look at it and decided I wanted it. It took me a couple of weeks to sort out the bare and very inexpensive essentials to get the bike on the road. I am not ashamed of the various parts I have put together to get this one rolling. I have ridden it for almost 1000 kilometers (600 miles) and it is a great bike. I really like the relaxed geometry and reviews that mention it rides like a steel frame ring true. There are a few things I still need to do – perhaps cut the steerer tube, find a better PF30 BB, and swap out various drivetrain parts as they break or wear down. I have read some horror stories that the BB30 Omega crank has come apart at the drive-side but also heard from a few guys they got in years of riding without any trouble. The PF30 BB is an FSA part; it is already making some noise. I am not worried about this; it was a 450NT part and in Taichung, I can find a better BB with a simple phone call. The Micronew shifters are actually nice – I used a set in Florida, and for the price of 1250NT – they are too good to be true – fingers crossed they don’t break. I got in 100 hours of riding in Florida with a set – I experienced zero problems. The frame has one of the most elegant and jaw-dropping paint jobs on a bike I have ever seen – not sure if these photos do the paint job any justice. I will revisit this post and update the information in good time.
